Action Alert | PA Senate Trying to Write Discrimination into CHIP Authorization--Tell Them NO!
Join with the group from Harrisburg Tuesdays with Toomey, which along with others at the PA Capitol today, advocated for all Pennsylvania young people, especially transgender youth; Call on your State Senator to pass a "clean" appropriations bill to fund The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). CHIP provides health coverage to eight million children in Pennsylvania! The original version of House Bill 1388 passed the state House unanimously in June. CHIP is scheduled to expire on December 31st. The bill, as introduced, extended the program through the end of 2019. On Wednesday, Oct. 18th, the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee passed the amendment to prohibit coverage of transition-related care, including counseling, hormone therapy, and surgical procedures. All Republicans on the committee voted in favor of the amendment while all Democrats voted against it. Yesterday, the bill passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee and now heads to the Senate floor for consideration. Tell your PA Senator to reject this ploy to discriminate against transgender youth, and pass a "clean" appropriations bill to fund CHIP for all eligible children in Pennsylvania. http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/member_information/mbrList.cfm?body=S&sort=alpha
